Red Metal tagged me with the Mystery Blogger Award! I am thankful for the honor and want everyone to go check out what they are doing over there, because it is top notch. With this award you are supposed to answer questions asked by the one who nominated you, so without further ado:

What is the most unusual work you’ve ever experienced?

The most unusual work I have ever experienced would be from Hideo Kojima. The art he creates through his video games is on another level. The direction he takes is weird but in the best way possible.

What is the best work you have experienced that no one else seems to know about?

With this question I don’t want to highlight any one thing. I want to urge people to look at the work their local bookstores are doing. Right now with the pandemic going on we can’t go out and browse the bookstores the way we want but a lot of them are offering delivery and it might be the difference between them having to close and still being there when we come out of this thing.

If you could go back in time and go to the premiere of a classic film, which one would you choose?

I’ve never been a huge film buff by any means but seeing the premiere of Titanic would probably have to be my choice. The movie is one of the all-time biggest movies and I would be interested in experiencing what that was like in the beginning.

If you decided to write fiction, which genre would you choose?

I am actually working on a book right now, it’s a fantasy themed novel. It’s still in the early goings but I am extremely excited to put it out into the world.

What is the most disappointingly predictable plot twist you’ve ever experienced?

The plot twist at the end of Where the Crawdad Sings, when we eventually find out who the real killer was. I realized about halfway through the book and it felt like it was pretty obvious.

What do you consider to be the strangest title for a work?

This comes back to what I said about Kojima, but in recent memory Death Stranding is one of the more strange titles of a game. It ties in with what the game is about but it is still a weird title that tells almost nothing about what the game is.

Where in a theater do you prefer to sit?

I would want to sit near the back in the middle. Now it doesn’t seem to be as important as it used to because of the fact so many theaters are spaced out with the recliner chairs. There aren’t many bad seats in newer theaters.

Do you have any graphic novel/manga series you’re currently following?

I am currently not following any graphic novels or manga, but on the anime side I have been all about My Hero Academia and Haikyu!!

When it comes to reviewing films, which do you feel are more effective – traditional, written reviews or video essays?

I think video is better for film reviews, one of the things that makes a film review good is the ability to show scenes from the movie and it makes more sense to use a video review as the vehicle for those clips.

What aspects of old-school game design do you wish would make a comeback?

The one thing I would really like to see come back is the way older games made you figure things out. There weren’t long drawn out tutorials or hand holding sections, you were just released into the game to figure it out for yourself. There are examples of games that still do this, but overall I think it would be a benefit.

What aspects of old-school game design are you glad went away?

Having to go to a specific place in the game to save. For the most part games now allow you to save wherever you are but I remember a time not too long ago where you either had to keep playing or backtrack to a certain place just to save.
