The Last of Us Part II has Leaked Online (Spoiler-free)

Every so often we hear about some new video game information leaking in some respect or another. I think of all the times we heard details about the new Assassin’s Creed well before any announcement was made. It isn’t something that happens all too often and even when it does, it usually ends up being details like the official title or the setting. Rarely do we hear the full details of the plot, especially in regards to a triple A first party game like The Last of Us Part II.

I’ll start by saying I have completely avoided reading the spoilers for the game, as I want to experience it fresh, but from what I understand the entire plot is available online right now, as well as some of the cinematics. I know many of us were looking forward to experiencing the game and the story for ourselves, so I want to do my best to preserve that experience for all of us.

The Last of Us Part II has been leaked online, reportedly at the hand of a disgruntled Naughty Dog employee. This news is devastating to the many that worked so hard, and for so long to produce a high quality product that so many are looking forward to. The prevailing thought online is that the employee was suffering due to crunch in the lead up to the game’s release, but there has not been any confirmation on this front. No matter the reasoning behind the leak, this doesn’t do anything other than hurt the people this employee was working alongside for so long. The game itself will still sell extraordinarily well and will likely be well received, so in reality the only thing this person accomplished was effectively ending their career.

Most of the leaks we have seen in the past for video games have come from a careless employee leaving a presentation sitting on public transit or someone letting some detail slip in an interview, we haven’t seen too many instances of such a malicious attempt to attack a company by completely spilling all the work they had been trying to keep secret. This really is one of the most selfish acts I can ever remember happening in the video game industry.

Unlike with movies, or even books, spoilers for a game are not something I would imagine to impact the sales too much. Much of the experience of a video game comes from the actual act of playing it, and that is what sets the medium apart from all others. It is meant to be something you interact with and leaks cannot take that away. Naughty Dog games are one of the most cinematic experiences you can find in the gaming industry, and a leak like this probably hurts them more than most, but I wouldn’t worry too much about the success the game will find.

As always, thanks so much for reading! I hope you are all able to avoid spoilers on the sea of information that is the internet. Let me know your thoughts on leaks in the comments below or on social media. 1. If the leaks are true (which I’m pretty sure they are, same as when The Last Jedi script leaked) then it’s a total disgrace. They had all the chances to make this a very good game, with solid and interesting plot, but it looks like they’ve not only wasted it, but buried everything good the first game created. I’ve heard about it yesterday and this isn’t my most favorite game, but still I feel rather sad about it. Always sad to see a good thing ruined.

      1. Well, the Naughty Dog deleted the original video with the leak, but there are already many memes and short videos on Twitter and everywhere else. I hope you’ll be able to avoid all the spoilers! In the end, less than 2 months left to wait – not that long, and besides, I’m really curious to read your thoughts on the game! You’re planning to purchase it, right?
