What have I been Reading/Playing Lately? As well as some Personal Covid-19 Updates

How’s it going guys? I was hoping to have my review for Axiom’s End finished and posted today, but with the way things have gone it seems like that will be my Saturday post this week instead. I have really loved reading it and I really can’t wait to finish it up and share my thoughts on it with you all. Axiom’s End is really the only book I have been reading, I usually have two or even three books in progress at a time, but for some reason I haven’t been able to focus on too many things at once right now. I will say though, I have really been toying around with the idea of rereading the Harry Potter series and doing reviews on each of them and how they have held up for me. Let me know what you think about that idea.

In terms of video games I’ve been playing, I am still going strong on animal crossing! I’ve had a lot of fun with the May updates that brought Redd and Leif to the island as well as the May Day maze. I thought the maze island was a cute little way to put a puzzle in Animal Crossing and I really hope they do more little things like that in the future to keep things fresh. My dad actually started playing somewhat recently as well and he came to visit my island which was super cool!

I also recently started playing Trials of Mana. The remake not the original. I decided to download it on PS4 rather than Switch and the graphical upgrade and frame rate improvements seem to be worth it so far. I am still early on in the game, but it seems to be a pretty good rpg. I don’t think it will be winning any awards or anything, but I am having fun with it so far. I am really interested to see more of this game. I think this should hold me over nicely until The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima come out.

Finally with regards to the Coronavirus updates, the state I live in has begun lifting restrictions. This means the mall I work in has reopened to the public and the company I work for has opened as well. Today is actually the first day I will be going in and working with the public directly and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t at least a little scared or apprehensive about the entire situation. I wish I had the luxury to stay home and wait things out a little longer, but with the way things are I can’t afford to not be making money. Wish me luck guys!

So that’s it for today! I just wanted to give an update on where I stood on things currently and talk to you guys. Are you guys in places that are reopening? If so how are you handling it? If not, let me know what you guys have been up to? As always, thanks so much for reading! Check back (at least) every Wednesday and Saturday for new posts and sign-up via email to make sure you never miss anything!

  1. My state is opening up on a limited trial basis, with curbside pickup only for most non-essential retail stores, takeout only for restaurants, and appointments-only/limited customers for barber shops and hair salons. I think it is still too early to be allowing people to go out “as usual,” but we’ve had so many protests and small towns defying the rules (one mayor said ‘there is no coronavirus here,’ which made me go hmm), I think the state finally had to let go or face large scale breaking of the governor’s orders. I am looking forward to my local bookstore opening up again, and I could really go for a haircut now! But not at the risk of employees’ health and lives, especially since my hairdresser is over 65 and a cancer survivor.

Take care. I hope your employer is providing you with PPE, or at least a mask and hand sanitizer. And looking forward to your review of Ghosts of Tsushima! The trailers have been very exciting; I was hoping PlayStation would release a playable demo, but no such luck—yet.

    1. Yeah, I don’t mind the fact that we are reopening. It’s like you said though, we can’t just act like everything is back to normal and go about our daily routines. I saw so many customers come through the doors today not wearing masks or adhering to social distancing guidelines and that really concerns me for what is to come.

  2. My 18 year old is all about animal crossing lol… that’s funny – my daughter likes it too

My older one is waiting for Just the last of them and that other one you mentioned also – I like watching those.

You should do Harry Potter totally!

Good luck at work – feel the same way… wear a mask! Be careful!

  3. Good luck with the situation. I’m extremely conflicted about how things are going now, but I get the money thing — I can’t afford to just not work either.

If you’re into visual novels, the last few days had some great deals. Now I have about 200 hours of content that I can use to occupy my time with in case there’s yet another lockdown.

And Lindsay Ellis wrote a novel? I had to look it up to check if it was the one I was thinking of. It’s interesting to see a few people come out of that whole mess doing pretty well, or at least I guess she is if she’s got a novel out.

  4. Ahh! I just got an ARC of Axiom’s End recently. So glad to hear you enjoyed it. I can’t wait to read mine.

Hope you’re able to stay safe with returning to work!
