I recently posted about about how using social media can help you get your work in front of others and in that post I talked about the importance of connecting with other members of the writing community and other bloggers on WordPress, now I want to take a bit of my own advice and see what kind of partnerships I could with my fellow bloggers. I have one collaboration set up for the future already and I want to work with more of you guys so we can help promote each other. I see so many amazing blogs and writers here that I really want to create these working relationships and friendships.
Guest Blogging
Guest blogging is probably the most well know type of collaboration between bloggers. The basic idea is to write a post for the other person’s blog, with the incentive that it will bring each audience over to the other person’s blog and hopefully create new readers and followers. I think this would be the easiest way for most of us to start working with each other. I really can’t see much downside to the idea of showing our audiences new blogs and people to follow, a high tide raises all ships.
I think this is something that can really help grow your audience. I think it might be interesting to find bloggers who write about similar topics to yourself, but not exactly the same. This way each of you can find as many new readers as possible and hopefully maximize the potential for your growth. Find someone who’s blog you like reading and ask if they would want to work together in some way like this, the worst thing that can happen is that they say no.
Buddy Reading
This is the one that I have in the works currently and I am really excited about it. I think the book blogging community is one of the most interactive on all of the internet and we seem to be unique in the way we love to work together rather than work against each other. Buddy reading is when you read the same book as the same time as another person, experiencing the story alongside someone else who you can discuss it with not only helps you understand and enjoy it better, but also makes sure you keep up a good pace. In terms of blogging I think it offers the chance to not only include guest blogging opportunities but also the chance to offer up opinions and updates more frequently than just one normal review.
Most book bloggers read the book and post one review, and maybe one other post about the book. I feel that there is an opportunity with buddy reading that will drive more discussion around the book and give more opportunities to create more content surrounding it for both bloggers. Try to find someone who reads the same types of books you do and reach out to them to see if there is something on your TBR that you might be interested in buddy reading together.
Blogging Book Club
Starting a book club is another thing I have thought about, depending on the reception in the community. I think it could be fun if a few blogs were reading a book and we could all collaborate on discussions about it. It feels like it would be a good way to interact with our audiences in a more meaningful and connected manner. The more that I think about it this might also work well for the video game side of my blog too.
There are plenty of book clubs already, but this might be something to think about doing if you feel like you can offer something different. For instance, I feel as if I could include some sort of video game element into mine that would set it apart from the myriad of other clubs already available. There is always an opportunity for something new if you are looking for it, you might have something no one knew they were looking for, but always wanted.
Interviews
This is something I really find myself interested in, I think it could be a lot of fun to get other bloggers to sit in for an interview (either written out or on video) and talk to them about who they are and why they decided to start blogging. I think this is something I would want to make into an on-going series and it is something that I think benefits everyone. As with all of the ideas I have included in this post, these provide a benefit to both parties involved. The idea behind any of this is to drive traffic to the both creators and give people exposure to new audiences.
This interview idea could be expanded out into authors as well, depending on your reach and who you feel confident you could get as a guest. I really do think it would be fun to expand past only interviewing bloggers, but I think most bloggers have an interesting story to tell. A lot of bloggers are unique in that they don’t quite go all the way into the super creative side of novel writing, but at the same time are not all the way on the side of journalistic writing. Blogging is a unique medium all to itself and that is what I hope to dig into with this.
The only side of this I am still trying to figure out is whether or not it should be written or on video. I want to give the person I am interviewing the choice of course, if they don’t feel comfortable on camera or audio then there isn’t a problem with a written out interview. I just think the future of the series could be a video segment. What do you guys think?
As always, thank you so much for reading. If you have other ideas for collaborations between bloggers or are interested in working together, leave a comment or reach out to me on Twitter! Be sure to check back for new posts (at least) every Wednesday and Saturday and sign-up via email to make sure you never miss anything!
Yeah, that’s also what I always worry about when writing interviews instead of filming them. I feel like we should get in front of a camera and make it like those Youtubers! But it’s a matter of respecting their privacy too; if they don’t want their image/face on the internet, it’s up to them. I feel like the perfect compromise for this is to only use audio clips of our discussion.

That’s kind of what I was thinking, I think the future is obviously leaning toward video content, but it has to work for both parties.

Great ideas. Interviews are something I’ve been trying to do lately. Hopefully will have two more soon. . .
