June TBR and Goals

For the month of June I wanted to start setting some goals for myself and listing out my planned TBR (which will almost assuredly change). After everything else that has been going on in the world currently I think it is important to get my mindset right and focus on what I want to do in terms of my writing and reading, as well as in my personal life.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – J. K. Rowling

This month I am going to kick off my re-read of the Harry Potter series. I haven’t read these books in years, I believe it was back in middle school, and I am really interested to see how I view them now. It will especially be interesting to me to read them in light of J. K. Rowling’s recent comments on Twitter and how the public opinion on her has shifted.

The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas

With the recent civil unrest in the world, it seems to be the perfect time to branch out in the type of books I am reading as well as the kinds of authors I am filling my shelves with. After everything that has been going on, and my attempts to utilize the platform I have to advocate for change, I think this book will be a great jumping off point for my own personal growth.

It’s About Damn Time – Arlan Hamilton

This is a book I was accepted to review on NetGalley! I love books that focus on improving yourself and your mindset and this seems right up my alley. I believe there is always something to learn from looking at things from another person’s perspective and being able to apply those things to your own life. This book has a business slant to it, and I have always found insights into the world of business to be very intriguing.

TBA – Review Copies

I have had a couple publishers reach out to me about reviewing some books for them, I want to leave these a mystery for the time being, at least until I have the chance to iron out some of the details. I am so thankful that my blog and platform has grown to the point that people are reaching out to me with these opportunities and I can’t wait to continue to grow! This is honestly so exciting for me and I want to thank all of you who read this for helping me get to this point.

Between these three books and the review copies I hope to be able get through 5 books, which for me seems like a lot, but I really think this is doable. It is at least a goal that I can use to push myself and try to keep reading even more.

Games I want to play in June

The Isle of Armor DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield (June 17th)

This marks the first real foray into the world of DLC for the Pokémon franchise. Pokémon Sword and Shield were bashed for not having enough content on release, and while some still see this as being a cop out of sorts, I think this is a good step forward for the franchise. In the past this would have been packaged into a third game, but in my opinion it is better suited to be small chunks of added content just like this.

The Last of Us Part II (June 19th)

The game we have all been waiting for is finally coming out! While some of the air has been taken out of the sails with leaks and the like, I am still psyched to play the game on release date. I have been lucky enough to avoid spoilers thus far and I will hopefully be able to keep that up all the way through. I am really interested to see how this whole thing plays out.

These two “games” are the only real standouts of the month for me, but they should give me plenty of content to delve into. I plan to make first impression posts for each shortly after release and then a full review after I have explored at least the full story of the game/DLC. I hope you guys enjoy that format for gathering my thoughts on video games, I think it is the best way to completely capture my feelings on them and give myself the time I need to really sit with my feelings on a game. Let me know in the comments if you like how I split them each into two parts.
