The Interview
Tell me about yourself.
Hello, everyone! My name is C. M. Ramsburg and I am a 23-year-old Urban Fantasy Author and Astrologer. I write about various Zodiac systems to highlight their unique and diverse cultural influences. My novel, Son of the Sun, combines Western/Greek Astrology with Vedic/Hindu Astrology. I also run an astrology blog called Ramstrology, which welcomes everyone into my world of magic!
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in the Sunshine State of Florida! I grew up in the Tampa Bay Area, so both the beach and Disney World were typical weekend activities. I have never gone a year without at least one annual pass to one of the many theme parks in our area. My personal favorite is Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure. One of the main settings in Son of the Sun takes place in my home city, which happens to hold the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive days of sunshine.
What do you do for a living?
I graduated from the University of Florida in May of 2018 with a B.A. in History and B.A in Geography. I also have a Certificate in Meteorology and Climatology. I graduated a year early, only spending 3 years at my university. This allowed me to build my career early. I had been working in the Travel Industry since graduation. I was a Travel Agent Sales Manager for a French travel supplier. However, I was unfortunately part of the massive wave of layoffs due to COVID-19, which has brought the entire global travel industry to its knees. I am currently moving to a new city and will likely start a whole new career, since it may take multiple years for the travel industry to recover.
What led you to become a blogger?
I actually made the final decision to become a blogger just under a month ago. The inspirations for Ramstrology naturally hit me while I was building my brand new author website, cmramsburg.com. I decided that if I was going to have an author website during pre-publication, I wanted to offer a valuable and accessible source of Astrology content that my viewers could read instantaneously. I am still querying literary agents, so it may be some time before Son of the Sun is made publicly available, but I can at least prep my viewership with Zodiac information that is going to be relevant in my upcoming novel.
How do you come up with new posts?
I primarily allow my own research to drive me. I like to focus on the Astrology and Zodiac content that will be most relevant to my readers while reading my YA Urban Fantasy. I think it is important to explain the background information and Astrological concepts that will appear in my writing. The blog will help beginners who want to learn about the basics of Astrology, which will give them a greater understanding of my characters. I am always taking new blog post suggestions, so if there is anything about the Zodiac you want to hear more about, please let me know!
What has been your most successful post?
I believe my most successful post has been Leo the Lion. It currently has the most views and it is the first single-post link that comes up when you Google Ramstrology. I’m not too surprised by this, Leos are a great bunch and they sure love to win!
What has been your favorite post so far?
This may be rather biased of me, but my personal favorite is my Aries the Ram blog post. Aries is my own personal Sun Sign. My blog’s name, Ramstrology, has a double meaning. It is a play on both my last name, Ramsburg, and my Aries Sun Sign. I had the most fun while writing my Aries post because the content came very natural to me. I had the opportunity to mention the strengths and shortcomings I personally experience as an Aries. I was also excited to give everyone a sneak peek into the life of Jason Lundell, the Keeper of Aries in my YA Urban Fantasy. I believe that Jason will be one of the most complex characters for my readers to gauge. He is multifaceted and exhibits a broad emotional range. You will either love or hate him.
What is one piece of advice you would give to people creating their own website?
Save everything and always backup your work. I had an entire day’s worth of edits get completely erased when my website developer crashed. What’s worse is that this occurred only a couple of hours prior to my website launch. I had to frantically redo all of my edits in order to finish right before my scheduled launch time. I never thought I was capable of working that fast, but I pushed through.
If you could pick your dream job what would it be?
Of course, my dream job would be as a successful full-time author. This has been my dream since elementary school and I intend on achieving it.
What is your favorite book of all-time?
This can be quite a difficult answer because I love so many books for vastly different reasons. The book that instantly comes to mind as my favorite would have to be John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. There is something about Steinbeck’s work that keeps it in the forefront of my mind whenever I am asked these questions. One of my favorite major essays I have written was a deep analysis comparing Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath to his Of Mice and Men. I was also a history major, so the historical content of his work has always allured me.
What is your favorite video game of all-time?
I like the old-school playstation throwbacks. My favorite video game of all-time bounces between Crash Bandicoot and Sly Cooper. I grew up playing those games and I love the nostalgia that hits me when I play them to this day. I used to be obsessed with the levels that let you play as Crash’s sister, Coco Bandicoot, where you get to ride on her cute pet tiger.
Who is your favorite fictional character of all-time?
This may come as a surprise, but I am going to say Kakashi Hatake from Naruto. I think he’s a perfectly written character who’s impossible not to love. With a tragic backstory and natural-born power, Kakashi had all the makings to become a villain. However, he remained the moral compass for the Naruto cast throughout the entire series. He was the voice of reason and he had the strength to uphold his moral code. In the end, he reluctantly rose to power because everyone respected and admired him, not because he was power-hungry.
What does the M stand for?
I think we both know that the “M” is currently classified information. Although, I am sure this information will be leaked somewhere down the line.
Anything else you want to tell people about your work, or anything else you want to plug?
Yes, I am an extremely active member of the Writing Community on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. I would like to encourage those who have questions or blog suggestions to tweet me at @cmramsburg.
